About us

Palestine Missionary Baptist Church (PMBCSATX) was established in 1913 under Rev. P. H. Haywood. The church was originally  located at 714 Delgado Street and was originally named Gatho Hill Baptist Church. The church was remodeled in 1926, led by Rev. J.R. Murphy. In 1930, Rev. J.W. Williams was called to pastor. In 1936, Rev. A.A. Hill as pastor led the church into another remoldeling phase. In 1942, Rev. G.C. Coleman was a very successful leader at the time. The church was renamed, Palestine Baptist Church, and many improvements were made,  Palestine felt a need to go forward. A new pastor, Rev. M.C. Arnold, arrived and was in leadership briefly. By 1948 Rev. J.W. Washington was called to  pastor. Continuing growth of members demanded expansion of the church. In 1952, Rev. J. Monroe Smith was called to the pastoral position and served for a period of about one year before being called home from labor to reward. In 1953, after much prayer the Lord sent a young preacher to fill the void, in the person of Rev. Dr. L.A. Crenshaw. After 42 years at the same location, it was under Rev. L.A. Crenshaw that the church relocated to its current site of 915 N. Elmendorf Street in 1955. A visonary leader and full of faith, Rev. L.A. Crenshaw served as the under Shepherd  and worked untiringly along with the dedicated members until he was called home to be with the Lord in December 2010. The church membership continued in prayer for 17 months until the Lord sent our 12th pastor, Rev. Rodney L. Carter.  Rev. Carter served the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church until June of 2014, for approximately 3 years. We were again without a Pastor. After much prayer our church family was blessed in the person of Rev. Ronald E. Jones as our 13th pastor. With Godly wisdom and knowledge we have embarked on a journey of healing and restoration. Our Pastor's strategy is simply, with the help of the Holy Spirit we are "Shaping Hearts and Changing Lives" one at a time. We the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church have been blessed down through the years, many who labored have been called home to reward, but in the words of a favorite gospel song "Been working for Jesus a long time I'm not tired yet". It is with this in mind that we hold to God's word in Philippians 1:6  "And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns."
